The Art of Wellbeing: Wiremu’s creative journey

The Art of Wellbeing Exhibition in Marlborough is an annual event organised by CARE Marlborough to celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week. This exhibition showcases artwork that highlights the healing power of creativity and hope.
The exhibition in September 2025 saw Te Piki Oranga client Wiremu Arthur share his creativity, for his first time, with his community.
Joining an art class opened a new world for Wiremu, a space of calm and expression that he now looks forward to exploring again.
His featured painting, Massive Attack, bursts with vibrant colours against a dark backdrop. Wiremu says that his painting symbolises “freedom”.
Alongside his canvas work, Wiremu experimented with clay, crafting several ceramic dishes that reflect his growing confidence and curiosity. This experience wasn’t just about art; it was about wellbeing, connection and discovering joy in creativity. Wiremu’s journey reminds us that art can be a powerful tool for healing and self-expression, offering opportunities to learn, relax and thrive.
