How Te Piki Oranga uses and protects your personal information

This privacy statement explains how Te Piki Oranga collects, stores, uses and shares your personal information.

Openness and transparency are important to us. The Privacy Act 2020 requires us to tell you certain things about the personal information we need to carry out our functions.

This is where we explain our privacy practices and why you can trust us to handle your information with care and respect. We explain what personal information we collect and how we use or share it. We also explain the way we store and protect personal information and your rights to access and correct it.

There are five main factors to know

  1. We only collect personal information where this is necessary to carry out our functions for your care.

  2. We may collect personal information about you either directly from you or from other people or agencies, and we may generate personal information about you when we carry out our functions.

  3. We store all our data (including your personal information) on a secure cloud platform, and we follow all security practices recommended by the Ministry of Health. We protect our data with all reasonable technical and process controls.

  4. You can ask us for a copy of your personal information at any time. We will be as open as we can with you but must also ensure we meet our privacy obligations to other people.

  5. We will only use and share personal information where necessary to carry out the functions for which we collected it, or if required by law.

HealthOne

Te Piki Oranga contributes to, and accesses healthcare information from HealthOne . 

What is HealthOne?

HealthOne is a South Island-based secure electronic record that allows registered healthcare providers directly involved in your healthcare, to quickly access information such as your test results, allergies, medications, GP summaries and hospital information.

HealthOne strictly adheres to the principles of the Privacy Act 2020 as well as the rules set out in the Health Information Privacy Code 2020.  Access is only possible via an approved highly-secure healthcare information network which is regularly audited and tested. 

Privacy auditing is used to check that only those directly involved in your care are accessing your information.

The Te Piki Oranga website (tpo.org.nz) does not collect, use or share your personal information.

The information you submit via forms from this website (eg our referral form) is not stored on this website. Instead, the information is sent by email to a secure Te Piki Oranga email address. Please refer to the information above, to find out how Te Piki Oranga uses and protects your personal information.

We use Google Analytics to collect statistical information about your visit to this website.

The information collected by Google Analytics is aggregated (grouped with everyone else’s) and does not identify you personally. It includes:
