Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)

Our mental health clinicians offer a mana-enhancing service for kōhungahunga (infants), tamariki and rangatahi up to age 18, and their whānau.

We take a kaupapa Māori strengths-based approach to prevention, assessment and diagnosis, treatment and therapy.

About CAMHS services

Our CAMHS kaimahi include mental health nurses, social workers, occupational therapists and allied health professionals. They take a mana-enhancing approach to provide:

  • access to specialist assessment and diagnosis

  • medication monitoring

  • psychotherapies

  • monitoring of symptoms and regular review of your progress and treatment

  • early intervention and health maintenance

  • relapse prevention and problem prevention

  • promotion of good mental health

  • consultation and liaison with other healthcare providers and relevant agencies, such as:

    • Ministry of Education

    • Ministry of Social Development

    • Oranga Tamariki

    • Supporting Families

    • Strengthening Families

    • schools

    • non-government organisations and community-based services

How to access these services

Your family doctor (GP) or secondary healthcare (eg hospital) specialist can refer you.

All referrals will go to Te Whatu Ora Health, Nelson Marlborough (formerly the DHB, Nelson Marlborough Health).

If your referral is accepted, you then choose to be seen by either our Te Piki Oranga CAMHS team or a Te Whatu Ora Health, Nelson Marlborough CAMHS team.
