About Mana Whakatipu
Mana Whakatipu is a reintegration support service that starts before someone is released from prison and continues once they are living in the community.
We work alongside whaiora and their whānau to identify goals, overcome barriers and build on strengths to support a successful transition home.
Grounded in kaupapa Māori values, Mana Whakatipu focuses on nurturing potential, restoring connection, and supporting lasting change.

Our team can support pathways toward housing and accommodation, employment, education and training, life skills development, and stronger connections to whānau, culture, and community.

Reintegration programmes like this support whaiora to return safely to the community following time in prison.
That help starts at the earliest opportunity with training and education, addressing health needs, and planning for the future.
Supporting people who leave prison reduces the likelihood of re-offending.
Almost everyone who goes to prison will one day be released, and it can be challenging to readjust to life in the community. This includes getting used to new technologies and new ways of doing things.
People can also face prejudice because of their conviction, making it harder for them to find a place to live or get a job.
Supporting whaiora to make positive life choices, and break the cycle of re-offending, is a key part of reintegration.
-
The six pillars of reintegration that we support whaiora with are:
Housing
Supporting pathways to safe, stable, and sustainable housing by walking alongside whaiora, advocating for opportunities, and connecting with appropriate housing and accommodation supports.
Employment
Exploring work opportunities and pathways to employment
Education & Training
Accessing courses, training, and qualifications
Health & Wellbeing

Life Skills
Budgeting, daily living and family responsibilities
Whānau & Community Connections

-
Whānau are an important part of the journey.
Our team works in partnership with whaiora and their whānau to:
Understand goals and aspirations
Develop a personalised support plan
Connect with services and resources
Navigate challenges and barriers
Celebrate progress and achievements
We recognise the strengths, knowledge, and experiences that whānau bring and value working together to create positive outcomes.
