Te Piki Oranga is a quality Māori wellness service provider in Te Tauihu o Te Waka-a-Māui (Nelson/Tasman/Marlborough). Delivering healthcare and prevention programmes for whānau from our health hubs in Wairau (Blenheim), Whakatū (Nelson) and Motueka, from our mobile clinics or in whānau homes. Our emphasis is on whānau wellbeing and our tūāpapa (foundation) is a value (uara) based service that strives to meet whānau needs. 

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

We are seeking a Pūkenga Manaaki – Whānau Navigator to provide support to the CAMHS Clinicians from our hub in Motueka. Helping to develop whānau plans, goal setting and supporting the whole whānau to implement plans that will lead to positive change. Then co-ordinating access to support and services that the child, adolescent, youth and their whānau wish to use. This permanent part time role 24 hours per week, supports a whole whānau approach as well as working as part of a dedicated team of kaimahi who are passionate about delivering Te Ao Māori solutions under a Whānau Ora framework.
Additionally, we work closely other health and hapori / community services to deliver best fit options, tailored to what whānau need, now and into the future.

Some of the important mahi you will be involved in:

  • Working alongside our Clinicians to deliver each Whānau Ora plan, you will support whānau to engage with specialist mental health and addiction services.

  • Building relationships with your whānau as a trusted and innovative advocate enabling them to achieve their goals, both individually and as a wider whānau.

  • Working as a team to deliver tailored solutions from a Te Ao Māori perspective.

  • Embarking on exciting learning and development pathways, both professionally and in ongoing development of cultural competency.

  • Working with your colleagues across our wider organisation to support the delivery of our mahi in a manner that aligns with our vision and values.

  • Developing and maintaining collaborative and innovative relationships within our service and across our communities.

  • Championing opportunities for whānau to increase equity of access and engagement across services.

  • Knowledge of Te Reo me ōna tikanga is desirable, support to develop cultural competency on the job in a safe environment to do so is essential to our way of working.

  • Understanding of Child protection legislation and approach would be an advantage

  • A full clean driver’s licence is required

Mō te tūranga mahi | About this role

We’re seeking a qualified, registered Social Worker who can bring both professional skill as well as the effective coordination of social services support that are responsive to the needs of whānau. This is a permanent full-time position, delivered from our hub in Wairau
As a Whānau Kaimahi-a-Iwi, you’ll:

  • Work directly with Māori whānau to assess needs, develop whānau plans, and connect them to social and health services

  • Provide culturally safe and mana-enhancing support and advocacy

  • Facilitate access to emergency housing, mental health support, child protection, and more

  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team including nurses, lactation consultants, and other kaimahi

  • Promote whānau wellbeing through education, outreach, and community engagement

  • Maintain accurate documentation and uphold professional and cultural standards


Mōu | About you

You will have:

  • A recognised Social Work qualification and current SWRB registration

  • Experience working in Māori, iwi, or kaupapa Māori settings

  • Strong understanding of child protection, family violence, and community social services

  • Ability to assess risk and build responsive, effective whānau plans

  • Experience working with health or social service organisations

  • High cultural competency and willingness to continue developing in Te Ao Māori

  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice

  • Full NZ driver’s license

Desirable but not essential:

  • Proficiency in Te Reo Māori me ōna tikanga

  • Knowledge of Māori models of health (e.g. Whānau Ora, Te Whare Tapa Whā)

  • Experience with Client Management Systems (e.g. Indici)
