Mō tēnei tūrana mahi / About this role

Te Piki Oranga is looking for a permanent, full-time/40 hours a week, Mental Health Clinician to join our Whakatū/Nelson team.  

As key member of our Whakatū Te Ata Pūao team, you will work to tautoko our Tangata Whaiora and whānau experiencing mild to moderate distress. At times you will also work with our wider Te Ata Pūao team based in Wairau, as well as with regional Te Whatu Ora Primary Mental Health Services, other Māori providers across the rohe, Kāhui Hauora o Te Tau Ihu and with mana whenua.   

Some of the important mahi you will be involved in

  • To provide mental health and addiction interventions and support offered in the context of resilience building activity rather than a ‘therapy’ setting.

  • To promote early detection and intervention as well as supporting our kaimahi to implement interventions and strategies to support mental health and wellbeing of whānau. 

  • To deliver services and to facilitate access to other mental health and addictions supports that are appropriate to the needs of the Tangata Whaiora and whānau, both on an individual and a group session basis.

  • Deliver whānau therapy sessions provided to address interpersonal conflict within the whānau setting.

  • Building relationships with your whānau as a trusted, innovative advocate and clinician, enabling them to achieve their hauora goals, both individually and as a wider whānau.

  • Embarking on exciting learning and development pathways, professionally and in ongoing development of cultural competency.

  • Working as a team to deliver tailored solutions from a Te Ao Māori perspective.

  • Developing and maintaining collaborative and innovative relationships within our service and across our communities. 

What we are looking for from you to be successful in this role

  • Passionate about supporting whānau to thrive, increase resilience and develop greater hauora hinengaro/mental and emotional wellbeing. 

  • Experience working with whānau and/or within a Māori organisation would be an advantage, as will an understanding of Māori models of practice in health or related fields.

  • Drive to collaborate, enabling effective and constructive relationships. 

  • A commitment to a continuous improvement and a solution focused approach.

  • Being adaptable, flexible and keen to learn - every day is different and brings different opportunities and at times, challenges.  

  • Physical, mental and emotional resilience along with a commitment as a key member of our team to constructively address and overcome challenges as they arise.

  • Knowledge of Te Reo me ōna tikanga is desirable, support to develop cultural competency on the job in a safe environment to do so is essential to our way working.    

  • Understanding of Child protection legislation and approach.  

Candidates from a variety of clinical pathways are invited to apply, must have at least 1 of the following:  

  • Fully registered under the Health Practitioner Competence Assurance (HPCA) Act 2003 (e.g nurse, psychologist, or psychotherapist); Fully registered Alcohol and Drug and/or Gambling Practitioner member of the Addiction Practitioners Association Aotearoa-New Zealand (DAPAANZ); Fully registered Social Worker; or, Full member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC) who meets the criteria and has been accredited by the NZAC to work within the mental health and addictions scope of practice. 

A full driver's licence is essential, and the successful candidate must be able to pass a safety check under the Vulnerable Children’s Act 2004. 

Starting salary will be dependent on qualifications and experience; we have included a wide salary range because we are open to clinicians who are newly qualified as well as experienced clinicians.

We are seeking a Registered Nurse to provide whānau with access to integrated, coordinated nursing support services in their community. Delivered from the Wairau health hub this full-time fixed term role is available through to June 2027.

Ko wai koe / About you

You are invested in providing and supporting better health outcomes for whānau in the community. An advocate to reinforce health messages in the wider community developing and delivering the best standards of care using Kaupapa Māori approaches. Have knowledge of or possess a willingness to learn about conditions that impact Māori health.
Ngā pūkenga ka whai koe / Skills you will have:

  • A Bachelor of Nursing and hold a current practicing certificate / registration with NZ Nursing Council

  • Adept in report writing and client management system INDICI would be an advantage

  • Familiarity in developing whānau plans and risk assessments

  • Demonstrate collaboration with whānau and relevant key-stakeholders to maximise and facilitate positive health and social outcomes

  • Have a growing competency in Te Reo Māori me ona Tikanga

  • Auahi Kore (Smoke Free) and able to model a healthy lifestyle

  • A good sense of humour and able to demonstrate an alignment with ngā uara/our value
