Are you passionate about supporting our Rangatahi and Tamariki to thrive? Are you an excellent communicator with the ability to connect with our young people?  If so, this could be your ideal role…Te Piki Oranga is looking for a permanent full time (40 hours a week) Child & Adolescent Mental Health Clinician (CAMHS) to join our Whakatu/Nelson team. You will work a closely with Te Whatu Ora, other ministries and NGOs, and be an integral part of a kaupapa Māori wellness team of CAMHS Pūkenga Manaaki/Whānau Navigators and Clinicians, nurses, AOD and Kaupapa Māori clinicians and social workers dedicated to making a difference for our whānau. 

Our team is focused on supporting whānau to realize their potential and to facilitate more equitable health and social outcomes for Māori. We work closely other health and hapori/community services to deliver best fit options, tailored to what whānau need, now and into the future.

Some of the important mahi you will be involved in

  • To provide a recovery-oriented community-based assessment, treatment and therapy service that is accessible, integrated, coordinated and responsive to whānau needs.

  • Building relationships with your whānau as a trusted, innovative advocate and clinician, enabling them to achieve their hauora goals, both individually and as a wider whānau.

  • To advocate on behalf of your whānau with Nelson/Marlborough Te Whatu Ora Clinical Services and other organisations in relation to crisis responsiveness, risk identification and medication management, managed withdrawal, and psychological and other interventions.

  • Embarking on exciting learning and development pathways, both professionally and in ongoing development of cultural competency.

  • Working as a team to deliver tailored solutions from a Te Ao Māori perspective.

  • Developing and maintaining collaborative and innovative relationships within our service and across our communities. 

  • Championing opportunities for whānau to increase equity of access and engagement and promote diversity and inclusion across all services.

What we are looking for from you to be successful in this role

  • Passionate about supporting tamariki and rangatahi to thrive. 

  • Knowledge of Te Reo me ōna tikanga is desirable, support to develop cultural competency on the job in a safe environment to do so is essential to our way working.   

  • Experience working with whānau Māori and/or within a Māori organisation would be an advantage, as will an understanding of Māori models of practice in health or related fields.

  • Drive to collaborate, enabling effective and constructive relationships. 

  • A commitment to a continuous improvement and a solution focused approach.

  • Being adaptable, flexible and keen to learn - every day is different and brings different opportunities and at times, challenges.  

  • Physical, mental and emotional resilience along with a commitment as a key member of our team to constructively address and overcome challenges as they arise. 

  • Experience in mental health and working with tamariki and rangatahi

  • Understanding of Child protection legislation and approach 

Candidates from a variety of clinical pathways are invited to apply 

  • Registered Nurse, or allied health professional with PG Dip in Child Adolescent Mental Health or, for the right candidate, comparable experience with a commitment to undertake further study

A full driver's licence is essential, and the successful candidate must be able to pass a safety check under the Vulnerable Children’s Act 2004.
