Te Piki Oranga is looking for a dedicated and culturally grounded Kaupapa Māori Counsellor to join our team in Whakatū. This is a meaningful opportunity to work within a kaupapa Māori framework, supporting whānau through short-term counselling and holistic wellbeing services. You’ll be part of a passionate team committed to enhancing the mana of whānau and promoting resilience through culturally safe and therapeutic practices.
In this role, you will provide counselling and support to whānau experiencing psychological, emotional, or social challenges. You will engage whānau using a therapeutic, whānau-centred approach that incorporates Māori models of health and wellbeing. Your mahi will include conducting whānau ora and cultural assessments, developing tailored interventions, and fostering strong connections with whānau, hapū, iwi, and community networks. You’ll also collaborate with other health professionals and services to ensure coordinated and effective care, while maintaining high standards of confidentiality and cultural safety.

You are a culturally grounded mental health professional who is deeply committed to supporting the wellbeing of whānau. Your approach to counselling is holistic, strengths-based, and whānau-centred, and you’re confident working within kaupapa Māori frameworks. You value collaboration and integrity in your mahi, and you’re comfortable navigating both clinical and community-based environments.
Ngā pūkenga ka whai koe | Skills and Experience
Current registration as a Counsellor.
Relevant tertiary qualification in health or a health allied field.
Strong understanding of mental health conditions, interventions, and best practices.
Experience in mental health, ideally within kaupapa Māori or Māori health settings.
A deep understanding of Māori values, tikanga, and te reo Māori (or a willingness to learn).
Strong communication, cultural safety, and advocacy skills.
A full driver’s license and a healthy, auahi kore lifestyle
