Are you passionate about supporting whānau Māori to thrive? Te Piki Oranga is looking for a Kaupapa Māori Counsellor to join our Toitu Te Ora team. This is your chance to walk alongside whānau, offering guidance, advocacy, and culturally grounded support that makes a lasting difference.


Mō te tūranga mahi | About this role

he key focus of this role is to provide AoD counselling services to whānau and holistic support, drawing on Māori models of hauora. You’ll collaborate with whānau, community groups, iwi, and agencies to nurture wellbeing and empower positive change. Every day brings new opportunities to strengthen connections and help whānau realise their aspirations.

Ngā kawenga matua | Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver mana-enhancing counselling and support for whānau

  • Complete assessments, risk screenings, and co-create intervention plans

  • Share health knowledge and promote wellbeing in the community

  • Build and sustain relationships with whānau, iwi, and partner organisations

  • Maintain accurate records and uphold privacy

  • Engage in outreach, advocacy, and ongoing professional growth

  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and culturally rich environment


Mōu | About you

We are seeking someone who brings:

  • Deep respect for kaupapa Māori values and whānau-centred practice

  • A recognised tertiary qualification in Counselling (DAPANZ or NZAC registered)

  • Experience working with Māori communities and in health or social services

  • Understanding of Māori models of practice and Te Tiriti o Waitangi

  • Strong communication, adaptability, and teamwork skills

  • A full driver’s license
